It was not until the release of Nethack 3.4.3 in December 2003 that additional features for ongoing interaction were added. The operating system has been compared to a number of Mac OSes in future releases. The lack of new content from the developers has led to a few fan-created modifications.
According to a NetHack improvement group, a future version known as 3.4.4 (or 3.5) has had its source code inappropriately hijacked since September 21, 2014. The discovery of a new form was made, but it was not yet suitable for release.
Most of the levels that the player character faces in NetHack’s jail are generated at random when the player first meets them. As well as an “up” and “down” path and a few “rooms” connected by tunnels, every level offers certain basic features (which may be stairwells, stepping stools, or other secret entrances). A hurriedly constructed square form is called a “room,” and depending on its arbitrary formation, it may have facilities such as upper spaces, stores, wellsprings and traps, benches, pools and sinks.
