Katawa Shoujo, a visual novel, takes place in modern-day Japan at Yamaku High School for the Disabled. Hisao Nakai is a regular kid who, due to a congenital heart condition, has to switch schools and completely rearrange his life.
Despite his challenges, Hisao has the ability to make friends and even find love. There are five main ways in which the novel’s five essential female characters differ from one another. The story is told from the point of view of the protagonist in a first-person narrative.
